Today, the US Department of Agriculture unveiled it’s newest guide to healthy eating. If you grew up with the 4 food groups or the food pyramid, today’s release is just a newer version of those guides.
Since 2005 we’ve been force-fed this hideous thing to guide our eating habits:
Today, we get this:
Not only is the new ChooseMyPlate guide cleaner and simpler, the portions are more appropriate, placing a higher emphasis on fruits and vegetables. This still relies on people knowing what a grain is and what a protein is, but you can only hope for so much I guess.
And just for kicks, why don’t we piss off the dairy lobby and replace that with a glass of water while we’re at it.
Overall I take this as a good sign and a good step in the right direction.
